Message from the Head of School: A Great Opening Day
Dear Friends,
The school added 20 seats this year with our expanding middle division, so we were able to welcome 185 students for a wonderful opening day yesterday. The experience was quintessential Harlem Academy – joyful community-building games balanced with opportunities to dive right into our rigorous and engaging curriculum.
It was also fun to introduce a slate of new opportunities that await students this year, including Spanish, afternoon STEM enrichment, expanded arts, and interscholastic track and cross-country teams.
As I walked the halls and peeked inside classrooms, I saw our teachers building on students’ natural curiosity and love of learning at every turn – from kindergartners anticipating the direction of a story in read-alouds to fourth graders exploring geology to eighth graders keeping those equations balanced in Algebra 1. The School Creed asks us to make the most of each day, and I can safely say that our entire community is one for one!
I hope you’ll check out these photos and share in the incredible spirit of our 21st opening day.
Harlem Academy is an independent school (grades K-8) that drives equity of opportunity for promising students, guiding them to thrive at the highest academic levels and one day make a mark on the world.
