Message from the Head of School: Watch Our Inspiring Young Poets [Video]
Dear Friends,
With the addition of a new section of sixth grade this year, our middle school has expanded to serve even more promising students. It’s been wonderful to see new and returning students meld as a group as they share experiences and build bonds both inside and outside of school.
From navigating lockers and changing classrooms to adventure challenges and campfires in the wilderness, together, our sixth graders are learning what it means to be a Harlem Academy middle schooler: a compassionate friend, a determined team member, and – most recently – a bold and creative poet.
Last week, our sixth grade came together for an inspiring performance of original poetry, a culmination of their work with professional poets as part of Harlem Academy’s Visiting Poets Program. This longstanding partnership with the Poetry Society of America brings poets of color into our middle school classrooms for several weeks each year to guide students through the writing and revision process.
Harlem Academy is an independent school (grades K-8) that drives equity of opportunity for promising students, guiding them to thrive at the highest academic levels and one day make a mark on the world.
