About the Position:
Harlem Academy is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and nurturing third grade teacher to cover maternity leave starting in February, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background and the ability to create a warm, supportive, and challenging classroom environment. This role requires excellent teaching skills and the ability to foster meaningful relationships with students and their families while supporting their growth academically and socially.

The third grade teacher will implement the Benchmark Literacy and Math in Focus curricula, focusing on building strong literacy and math foundations for third-grade students. The teacher will collaborate continuously with faculty, contribute to a positive school culture, and participate in ongoing professional development. The role offers opportunities to participate in the broader life of the school community and contribute to extracurricular activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Implement the Benchmark Literacy and Math in Focus curricula to develop and deliver engaging literacy and mathematics lessons aligned with Harlem Academy’s mission and values.
  • Foster an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, solve problems, and develop critical thinking skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, providing individualized support as necessary.
  • Use various assessment tools to measure student progress and provide meaningful feedback to students and their families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth transitions and continuity in learning, especially as students move between grade levels.
  • Maintain strong communication with parents through regular updates, conferences, and feedback.
  • Integrate technology in meaningful ways to enhance learning and foster collaboration.
  • Participating actively in the school community, including attending faculty meetings, and school events and contributing to extracurricular activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in education or a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • At least three years of teaching experience, ideally in a K-5 classroom environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Experience in using best practices in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Digital literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Classroom.
  • Passion for working with children and a commitment to the mission of Harlem Academy.

Harlem Academy offers professional development opportunities, benefits, 10 weeks of paid vacation, and salary from $60,000 to $80,000 based on experience and demonstrated skills.
