Inspiring Young Poets Take Center Stage

At their recent Celebrations of Learning, our sixth and eighth graders took center stage to perform creative, inspiring, and sometimes vulnerable original poetry for an audience of family and friends – a culmination of weeks spent deeply engaged in an exploration of the craft.

“Over the last month, we’ve studied the five elements of poetry: structure, meter, rhyme, tone/mood, and figurative language, reading works across time and geography, from Emily Dickinson to Maya Angelou to Gary Soto,” says sixth grade English teacher Nora Massie. “Each student’s original poem represents the hard work they put into writing, workshopping, and revising their pieces.”
