Middle School Lead Teacher

Responsibilities: 
The middle school is organized by subject area specialists in English, history, math, and science. The division is expanding through 2025-26 and will be adding lead teachers to the team who will advance the strongest realization of the school’s mission. Middle school lead teachers have the following core responsibilities:
  • Write and execute rigorous, engaging, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate lesson plans that challenge all students, including advanced students already performing 1 to 2 years above grade level, and meet core learning goals.
  • Collaborate with external partners to extend the curriculum.
  • Use evaluation and a data-driven understanding of your students to drive decisions.
  • Manage routines and environments to ensure safety, academic performance, holistic growth, and a warm and inviting classroom culture that reinforces our school creed.
  • Advise a group of middle school students and lead arts and/or sports electives.
  • Build genuine relationships with families in formal and informal written correspondence, meetings, volunteer opportunities, and overall collaboration.
  • Reflect on and improve professional practices with mission-focus, depth, and honesty.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in innovative program development, coaching, and publication of articles on best practices using a thoughtful, team-oriented approach.
Qualifications include:
  • Deep knowledge of the subject taught
  • Ability to differentiate instruction
  • Ability to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students
  • Ability to engage students in rigorous content and well-planned, well-paced lessons
  • Skilled in classroom management (high warm and high firm)
  • Excitement, joy, and passion for teaching and promoting students’ personal development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with kids, employees, and parents
  • Three or more years of experience and a relevant master’s degree are preferred
Compensation:
Harlem Academy offers professional development opportunities, benefits, 10 weeks of paid vacation, and salary scaled to experience and demonstrated skills starting at $60,000.
